The Vanishing Act

My Mother spoke to me once

Of a place where young women went

When they “got into trouble” and needed help

It was in the basement of a Doctor’s House

And for Twenty dollars your trouble could vanish

The Young Women were grateful for the Doctor

And the Vanishing Act he performed for them

Knowing the plight of the poor in his parish

He only meant to help the young women

And realized it was their choice, and their future

And He Upheld His Oath to First Do No Harm
