Wrapping Paper being torn

Squeals of laughter fill the air

The anticipated wail of scorn

When Dad’s foot hits a floor bare

The smell wafts through the house

The smell of Mom’s fresh-baked pie

Grandma unwraps a new blouse

I suspect her love for it is a mere lie

All these things are fond memories

Of a life lived far too fast

I feel them here as I recall the stories

All The Ghosts of Christmas Past
