I Am Ghetto

Kicking and scratching

Scrapping and kicking

I climbed my way up

Out of the asphalt jungle

Up from the where the lights

Were always flashing in my face

Sirens blaring day in and day out

Dodging bullets flying through the hood

Passing around cornbread and kool aid

No mouth went hungry on my corner

Loyalties went out to those with honour

Honour goes out to those with loyalty

Honour, Loyalty and Respect this was the code

When you live proud in The Ghetto

  1. I love this piece. It reminds me of the long road to discipline. The speaker in this poem is full of integrity and strong will power and it is through this sheer will I am redeemed. thanks for sharing this with me
