Adrift

She held the torch

Longer than she could

Hoping against hope

Her betrothed would return

To light  the flame once more

She found busy work to do

Trying to make her heart

Forget what her mind already knew

The day her lover sailed off to sea

She was left adrift and lonely

With only an empty promise

The Sea was now His Mistress
